You can step back in time and tour through Washington's Historic District which includes 18 antebellum buildings. In the nearby town of Historic Bath, you will have the opportunity to explore North Carolina's oldest town (est 1705) which has the oldest church in the state and is the former home of the infamous pirate Blackbeard. A short ferry ride will take you to Ocracoke Island, home to one of the oldest active lighthouses in the country. Or you can tour Tryon Palace, the first permanent capitol of the North Carolina Colony and home to the Royal Governor. These are just a few of the historic treasures waiting to be discovered. And the more you explore, the more you'll fall in love with the heart of the Inner Banks.
